AMAN PARHAR
Aman Parhar is a co-director of
the Biotechnology Panel. He received a Five Years Integrated Masters in
Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of
Technology, Delhi. During his undergrad, he presented a research paper titled
"Transport and Biochemical Reaction in Immobilized Cell Reactors: Correlation of
Experiment with Theory" at an international Biotechnology seminar. After
graduating from IIT, he worked at Deloitte Consulting as a generalist Consultant
for four years. At Wharton, he is pursuing a dual degree program in MBA and an
MS in Biotechnology. His long term professional goal is to help the development
of Biotechnology in developing economies and emerging markets.
SVEN PFEIFFER
Sven Pfeiffer is a Director of
the Biotech Panel and a first year MBA student at Wharton. Sven received a MSc
in Biophysics from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany in 1997, and went on
to earn a PhD in Developmental Biology from University College London in 2001.
Sven then joined Merlin Biosciences, a London-based pan-European biotech venture
capital company. As Investment Analyst Sven carried out Due Diligence on early
to mid-stage product and platform technology companies. Following his tenure at
Merlin, Sven joined Apex Healthcare Consulting as Senior Business Analyst where
he worked with mid-size pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
ANYA SCHIESS
Anya Schiess is co-chair of the
biotechnology panel. She is a first-year. Since January 2003, Anya has worked
for the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative.
At the WJCPF, she developed HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs in the Eastern
Caribbean States and supported negotiations for low-cost pharmaceuticals. Until
June 2003, Anya was a consultant in the pharmaceutical and medical products
practice and corporate finance practice for McKinsey & Company, a global
strategy management consulting firm. Anya is actively involved in Junior
Achievement. Anya graduated cum laude from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public
and International Affairs at Princeton University. Anya is proficient in
Mandarin Chinese.
SIMOS SIMEONIDIS
Simos Simeonidis is co-Director
of the Biotechnology Panel. He is a first year MBA student double-majoring in
Health Care Management and Finance. He received his B.S. in Biology from Loyola
University in Chicago, and his M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Cellular, Molecular
and Biophysical Studies from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and
Surgeons. At Columbia, he graduated first in his class and completed the
graduate program in 4 years. His doctoral thesis investigated the role of the
NF-kB/IkB family of transcription factors and he identified and cloned the IkBe
gene. Next, he completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical
School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was subsequently appointed to
the faculty of the Harvard Medical School, where he continued his work on the
regulation of gene expression in cancer, HIV and atherosclerosis. He has written
numerous articles in leading peer-reviewed biomedical journals, has successfully
competed for funding from private and government agencies and has held teaching
appointments at Northeastern Illinois, Columbia and Boston College. At Wharton,
he is a member of the Health Care and Biotechnology clubs, the Wharton Soccer
team, and participates in the GUIDE mentoring program and is a member of the
Volunteer Admissions Committee.
