Dr. Jean-Pierre Garnier
Chief Executive Officer, GlaxoSmithKline

JP Garnier is CEO of GlaxoSmithKline, the world's second-largest pharmaceutical company. He has more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to leading GSK, he was Chief Operating Officer of SmithKline Beecham, where he had previously served as President of its North American pharmaceutical business. He began his career at Schering-Plough in a variety of management positions. He was appointed to Chancellor Gordon Brown's UK Advisory Council and named one of 50 "Stars of Europ" by Business Week magazine. He holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology and an MS in pharmaceuticals science from the University of Louis Pasteur in France. He earned an MBA at Stanford University in 1974 as Fulbright Scholar. He serves on the Boards of the United Technologies Corporation, Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy and Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships.
