Over a 25-year career dedicated to healthcare, Jeff Margolis has earned broad recognition as a futurist and advocate for the innovative application of information technology to all areas of the American healthcare industry. Margolis spends considerable time every year leading the discussion with other industry executives for the best course to a more efficient and effective healthcare system. His annual predictions for the industry spark much dialog, and sometimes a little controversy. Currently, Margolis is helping the industry understand Integrated Healthcare Management, a new model for improving the coordination of benefits and care for consumers.
A systems scientist and information technologist by training, Margolis has spent his entire professional career architecting information technology systems and services for some of the nation’s largest and most innovative healthcare organizations. Currently, The TriZetto Group, which Margolis founded in 1997, is the largest supplier of software and related services for the healthcare insurance industry. Its technology touches half the insured population of the U.S. and is the most trusted choice for many payers, including almost two-thirds of the nation’s BlueCross BlueShield organizations. Following an IPO in 1999, TriZetto was traded on NASDAQ under the symbol TZIX until August, 2008, when it was taken private in a leveraged buyout by private equity investment group, Apax Partners. Margolis is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TriZetto.
Before founding TriZetto, Margolis was a senior vice president and the chief information officer of FHP International Corp., a $4 billion healthcare company that operated health plans, multi-specialty physician clinics, hospitals and pharmacies serving more than 2 million members and patients. Prior to that, Jeff was Chief Information officer of TakeCare, Inc., and CompreCare, Inc. Jeff began his career in the management information systems consulting group of the organization now known as Accenture, where he helped launch the company’s managed care consulting practice. Margolis was named an “up and comer” by Modern Healthcare magazine in 1994. In 2002, he was named Ernst & Young's Technology Entrepreneur of the Year for Orange County and TriZetto has continually been recognized as one of fastest- growing technology companies in the U.S.
In addition to recently joining the board of directors of Hoag Hospital, Jeff serves on the advisory board of The University of California at Irvine’s Center for Healthcare Management & Policy where he regularly lectures on healthcare information technology. He is a member of the board of governor’s of Cedars-Sinai and is national board member for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. Jeff also recently joined the Harvard “Forces of Change in Healthcare” Faculty, beginning with their 2009 Conference series. In addition to frequent public speaking in the healthcare industry, he has authored an extensive series of published articles and a book titled The Information Cure.
Mr. Margolis received his B.S. in Business Administration--Management Information Systems from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with high honors. Mr. Margolis holds CPA certificates in Colorado and Illinois.
