Dr. Shah is a practicing physician and national expert in physician burnout, workforce wellbeing, and health policy. She recently was Chief Clinical Officer at Abridge, an AI company that structures and summarizes medical conversations to unburden clinicians from clerical work, and focus on what matters most—their patients. In 2022, she served as Senior Advisor to the US Surgeon General, where she developed the nation’s strategy to address burnout and the great resignation among the US health workforce. She also served in the White House and US Department of Veterans Affairs over two administrations. As a seasoned healthcare executive during COVID, Dr. Shah stood up telemedicine for a large health system in GA and led emergency response across tribal hospitals.
As a national expert on burnout and healthcare, she has been featured at the National Academy of Medicine, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Harvard and CBS and NBC news. Dr. Shah received her MD from Thomas Jefferson University and her MPH from Harvard. Dr. Shah received her MD from Jefferson and her MPH from Harvard. She is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care, and practices at RWJBarnabus Health in New Jersey.
